Meditation

After winning dozens of Emmy awards, producing and writing a Sundance 2010 film and working to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to build schools in Kenya for AIDS orphans, Reed Cowan found himself empty and on his way to ruin. “I was running from something. I ran headfirst in to work and resume building. That something was grief.” In 2006, Reed’s four year old son, Wesley, died in a tragic back yard swingset accident. “After a few months, I told myself that if I allowed one more tear, I’d eventually lose my mind. So, I shut off the tears. I shut off the feelings. And I drowned it all out, with the noise of work and accomplishment.” Years later, in a Las Vegas meditation and yoga class, prostrate on the floor in the painful frog pose, Reed felt a break in his system. “I cried for the first time in years. Not only cried, but soaked the towel beneath me. I tapped in to the center where all healing exists, and in that meditation class, I felt the first lights of healing pour in. I wanted more. More for me. More for others. That’s why I got a proper meditation and yoga training and that’s why I teach to this day. I want people to go home to their own healing.”
